What is real?

What is real?

Quantum physics informs us that energy is the basis of our universe. Energy exists in everything. It is the potential and actual force of everything, both tangible and intangible, including ourselves. This means that energy is the source and foundation of everyone and everything, and the connections in between. It may be difficult for us to comprehend that the items we regard as having physical properties are no more than states of energy vibrating at a particular frequency, in relationship with our perception of the state of the object, in the same way that all of the intangible and abstract concepts are also states of energy.

So what is real anyway? Probably most of us have always regarded the things that we can see and touch as real, but when we realise that everything comes from energy and is a form of energy in how it is manifested, whether we see it or not, our concept of real can become confusing and somewhat blurred. In the words of Niels Bohr “Everything we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real.” Likewise, everything we call not real is made up of things that can be regarded as real, and therein lies the paradox!

Thinking of our own lives, we can wonder what impact we have on the world in ways that we may not have previously considered. What about our thoughts and intentions? As invisible concepts and entities, surely they don’t affect anyone else other than ourselves? According to quantum physics and the many testimonies of the power of thought and intention, our invisible selves do matter, and are matter, and we cannot ignore the impact that our intangible selves has on others and on the universe.

Beyond the interconnection of the body, mind and spirit is the further interconnection of ourselves with one another, and with the universe. We are entities of the same cosmos. As miniscule as we may view ourselves in this expanse, a single thought, feeling or action of anyone, does in fact affect the whole: it affects the whole person, the whole family, the whole community, the whole world, the whole universe. We cannot draw the line after any particular denomination with the assertion that we do not count, and that our thoughts and actions are of no value and have no influence on the wider group. Just as a drop of water causes a ripple effect across the river, so too does everything we think, say and do affect the whole of our lives and beyond.

In that regard, everything is real – every thought, every word, every action, every thing, every person – even though many of these entities may not appear real at all. It is also the case that each of us has different perceptions about what it real to us. We may disregard or dispute the perceptions of others as not being real (we are right and they are wrong), however in the world of universal energy, every perception is part of the overall composition, and in that regard must be real.

When I apply real-ness to everything, perhaps I can be more conscious of my actions, words and the thoughts that I hold, so that I emit the most loving energy that I can. When I am more aware of the ripple effect of everything that I think say and do, I can be add my piece of love and compassion to the greater pool of loving energy in the world.
